Lungwort is a perennial, hardy wild perennial with hairy, white or silvery spotted leaves and blue-violet to pink flowers. It prefers to grow in sparse deciduous forests and has been used in folk medicine for centuries - especially for coughs and lung complaints. The flowering period begins very early in the year and provides bees with a valuable first source of food.
Non hybrid
Not frost resistant
Ideal location: at the edge of woodland, under sparse shrubs or deciduous trees Does not tolerate full sun - leaves otherwise become limp Pruning after flowering promotes a compact shape and new leaf formation Good bee and insect plant - attracts first pollinators early in the year Winter green: leaves survive mild winters and serve as ground cover
